Introducing Olufunke Baruwa, 2024 Senior Fellow, Nonprofit Leadership and Management (NPLM) Youth Academy Programme

The Lagos Business School Sustainability Centre (LBSSC) is pleased to announce Mrs Olufunke Baruwa will serve as the Senior Fellow for the Nonprofit Leadership and Management (NPLM) Youth Academy Programme.

Mrs Olufunke Baruwa is a gender and development practitioner with extensive experience in government and civil society, focusing on social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion in development, industries and organisations. She has held leadership positions in various organisations, including the Nigerian Women’s Trust Fund, the defunct Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund, and the National Poverty Eradication Program (NAPEP), Regional Programme Officer for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Justice at the Ford Foundation Office for West Africa, Civil Society and Media Specialist at the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Nigeria, where she designed and led multi-million-dollar civil society strengthening projects.

Recognised as one of the ‘17 women changing the world’ by the Institute for Inclusive Security, Olufunke is a member of the Women Waging Peace Network. She is also a public speaker, mentor, and writes a weekly general interest column for Leadership – a prominent Nigerian Newspaper, addressing issues of social justice and public policy.

Olufunke holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration and an MBA in Management from the Universities of Abuja and Nigeria, Nsukka, respectively She also has post-graduate certifications in Gender Issues from the University of East Anglia and Public Policy & Management from the University of York as a 2011 Commonwealth Scholar. Additionally, she holds an MA in Corruption & Governance from the University of Sussex.

The NPLM Youth Academy Programme is a nine-week, intensive leadership development programme for young NGO founders, social activists and early career professionals working in development sector careers and making a positive difference through their nonprofit organisations. The programme provides participants with the skills and knowledge they need to lead and manage nonprofits and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). It is designed to develop a pipeline of young, ethical and competent professionals and leaders for Nigeria’s nonprofit sector who understand and apply inclusivity principles in their work and impact focus areas. This Youth Academy has equipped over 400 Nigerian youths since its commencement in 2018 thanks to the support of the Ford Foundation and Lagos Business School. NPLM Youth Academy is a key initiative of the LBS Sustainability Centre.
